Undersea

Undersea

Magic Leap's "Undersea" app was a room-scale AR experience showcasing a vibrant, interactive coral reef biome within your physical space. Users could observe and even interact with dynamically generated underwater life in a photorealistic style, pushing the boundaries of spatial computing graphics.

Experience

Users experienced a captivating, realistic coral reef appearing in their room via a portal that appeared on the wall of their room. They could observe vibrant sea life up close as fish swam through the portal and interact with the immersive underwater environment as it grew into their environment. As part of the Magic Leap Studios team, we were involved in the creative, technical and design development of Undersea from inception to showcasing the experience at various conferences and talks around the world.

Impact

Animation Magazine (July 2019): Victoria Rege, the SIGGRAPH 2019 Immersive Pavilion chair, stated, "The quality and interactivity displayed through Undersea is a breathtaking look at how this art form is thriving."

Next Reality (July 2019): Described the experience as one that "transports you to another world" and highlighted the interactive elements, such as bubbles flowing from the user's hands and a fish seemingly trying to interact with them. The author concluded it delivered "more of the meditative, otherworldly interactive AR experience I've been hoping to see more of."

RoadtoVR (July 2019): "...for experienced AR users, there's a lot of value here. The experience really remakes your reality into something peaceful and serene."
